1897 French Automaton Baby In Basket Doll, Exposition D’Art, For Restoration. Condition is Used. Rare French Automaton baby doll in basket on original base. From the 1897 Worlds Fair in Brussels. Full original label on bottom. The doll sits in a wicker basket perched on a red velvet base. She wears a hat with an extreme bill, a lace, cotton and satin dress with a composition head and hands, and wood feet and limbs. The dress is soiled and torn, needs restoration. Ty3 whole piece needs general restoration, the key turns, when you pull the side button under arm, it moves for a second then stops. There are several you tube videos of a working version of this piece available. If perfect, she brings 5 figures....with some skillful cleaning and spring repair, it would be a magnificent early and dated automaton. Sold as found. She has her original ribbon hoop as well. 16” tall by 12” by 8”.
