Vintage 1950s Mertens Kunst Wood Wall Decor Knitting Girl Germany Strickliesel

Vintage Mertens Kunst Wood Children's Wall Decor Little Knitting Girl with Kitten made in (West?) Germany
There is no date on this but according to the previous owner it is 50-60 years old. Internet says 1950s. What a fun piece to display on your babies nursery wall or child’s bedroom or playroom! Or your craft room!
It measures 7 3/4” long at its longest points and is approx 6” wide at its widest point which happens to be at the base.
It is made of wood and I believe it was hand painted. The colors are bright. There is a small chip on her knuckle and on either side of the base. There are a couple of spots on her apron and cat. The ones on the cat look like stray paint. You can also see the wood lines in the paint.
The back has a chip in the wood on the bottom and at the top. The original hook is gone and in its place is a safety pin which I will leave for the new owner to decide to remove or leave as is. Someone has written in pen Little Knitting Girl. It is stamped Mertens Kunst and says in German Strickliesel which when I googled it came back as:
strickliesel- Many German Girls were given their introduction to the all-important (and not always loved) concept of Handarbeit (literally hand work or handi craft, but in this instance it means needlework/sewing or embroidery) with a Strickliesel.
